A weekend of tandem riding in beautiful western Indiana

Welcome! We invite you to join us for three days of scenic riding in west central Indiana. Greencastle, a city of ten thousand residents, is the home of Depauw University. Many famous people have visited Greencastle to speak at the University. They include Martin Luther King Jr., Tony Blair, Margaret Thatcher, and Bill Clinton. Greencastle was also visited by the infamous John Dillinger and his gang which included “Pretty Boy” Floyd, “Machine Gun” Kelly, and “Baby Face” Nelson. On October 23, 1933, the Dillinger gang robbed the Central National Bank on the southwest corner of the town square of more than $74,000. This is the equivalent of $1,700,000 today, and it was the largest heist of their careers. On the town square you can see one of only two German WWII “Buzz Bombs” in the country.

Our headquarters for the weekend will be the Inn at Depauw, which is just a few blocks from the courthouse square. All rides will start from the hotel, and there are many restaurants within easy walking distance. On-line registration is available at Red Podium.

Ride Information (Ride with GPS Files)

After working with three highway departments, and making a few changes, the routes are now final. You may download the route booklet.

All participants must sign a CIBA waiver. All routes will have a cue sheet, map, and GPS file available at www.tandemhoots.org. Although some printed copies will be available at the start, please download and print your own cue sheets. Routes will NOT be marked with Dan Henrys. There will be no formal SAG support. Although our cell phone number will be provided on the cue sheet, we will be riding the event, and will not be able to respond immediately. Routes are designed to allow rest stops at convenience stores and restaurants along the route. The routes have been planned with local support and ridden to determine that they are safe and appropriate. We will not be able to check the routes immediately prior to the event but will be in touch with local riders and the local highway departments to identify construction and other problems along the routes. Garls Bikes is two miles east of the host hotel, and it’s open until 5pm on Friday and Saturday. We suggest that you bring a few tubes and other parts that you might need.
